What is the Brooklyn Bee?

The Brooklyn Bee is me, John Howe, and The New York City Beekeeping Meetup

I live in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, N.Y.

and have (had) three beehives on my roof*.

In the Summer and Fall the bees make honey, maybe 60 pounds.

Sometimes I make soap, lip balm and candles from beeswax in the Winter.

I don’t make lot of money. In fact, I’m lucky if I break even, but it’s a great hobby and I enjoy sharing my honey and other products with my neighbors.

*UPDATE: I have moved my operations to a community garden in Fort Greene, while I have moved myself to a new home in England. I can no longer keep my operations at my Brooklyn brownstone because new tenants occupy most of the space.

I still have one foot in Fort Greene (my basement apartment) and live there half the year while I sort out the visa problems. Meanwhile one beehive continues and I still sell local honey through the NYC Beekeeping Meetup. For any inquiries about special honey orders or beeswax please contact the Organizer at http://www.meetup.com/nyc-beekeeping/. For regular purchases of honey see the table of contents on this website.

P.S. I still offer the school program.
